Ivy of Steel, Valley of Style

A public urban landscape-infrastructure project, the Caoyang Centennial Park is located in a former railway site that had been re-appropriated as an open-air market for the last two decades until its inevitable closure during the pandemics. The abandoned space has been re-programmed to become a new linear park to serve the mostly senior residential neighborhood. Founded in 1951, the Caoyang New Village is the site of the earliest workers’ housing units by the new Chinese government. Stacked in three overlapping layers, the new linear park provides the necessary open space for future leisure, cultural, and artistic events for the city. Designed, built, and inaugurated within one year, the Caoyang Centennial Park also serves as one the main sites for the 2021 Shanghai Urban Space Art Season (SUSAS) exhibition.
