Diller is the eighth winner of the annual prize that is part of AJ/AR's Women in Architecture award program. Previous recipients include Amanda Levete, Denise Scott Brown, Odile Decq, and Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Grafton Architects.

AJ editor Emily Booth described Diller as an "international architectural powerhouse," with projects ranging from New York's High Line and Los Angeles's Broad museum, to the recently unveiled Centre for Music in London and The Shed, opening this spring next to the High Line. Diller told AJ she was "very touched" in winning the prize and honored "to join such an amazing group of women that came before."

Diller will receive the prize at the Women in Architecture awards luncheon in March, when photographer Hélène Binet will also receive the 2019 Ada Louise Huxtable Prize, which recognizes "women working in the wider industry who have made a significant contribution to architecture and the built environment," and when the Architect of the Year Award and the Moira Gemmill Prize for Emerging Architecture will be announced.
