In Structures of Being, Argentine artist Sofia Crespo covered the historic facade of Antoni Gaudí's Casa Batlló in Barcelona with AI-generated images over two nights in January.
The artwork created by Sofia Crespo and featuring music by Robert M. Thomas was not the first time Casa Batlló was used as a canvas for projection mapping: In May 2022, Refik Anadol staged Living Architecture, which was also shown in New York City and auctioned as an NFT. Crespo, who follows Anadol as the second artist-in-residence at Casa Batlló, wanted to express the creative breakthrough that Gaudí had finding inspiration in nature. The films and photographs that follow illustrate the colorful imagery that was drawn from nature and the way the moving images interacted with the balconies, turret, and other features of the facade of Casa Batlló.
