The architectural team of Grimshaw, Nordic Office of Architecture and Haptic Architects has released images of the terminal complex for the new Istanbul Airport. The new terminal is part of a massive four-phase, six-runway development master planned by Arup. The first phase, which includes the new terminal, is set to open in 2018 and handle 90 million passengers per year, roughly what the world's busiest airport, Atlanta's Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, currently handles annually. But this will increase to over 150 million passengers per year when all phases are complete in Istanbul. The new terminal boasts as becoming "the world’s largest airport terminal under one roof, with a gross floor area close to one million square meters."
