In April we reported on the Guggenheim's search for an architect to design a branch museum that would accompany its museums in New York, Bilbao, Venice, and one planned for Abu Dhabi. The number of competition entries for the Helsinki branch more than triples the 516 entries for the Kiasma Contemporary Art Museum, also in Helsinki, won by Steven Holl in 1992.

According to a report at Art Daily, the majority of the submissions come from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Japan and Finland, and they will be judged anonymously later this year with a winner selected in June 2015. Per a Guggenheim press release: "On October 15, an online gallery of submitted entries will be launched on the Guggenheim Helsinki Design Competition website and will include opportunities for the public to identify and share their top selections." Other sources indicate a shortlist will be determined by December 6.
